A Phyllodes tumor interview
How did all start?
I felt a lump in my breast and went to a doctor immediately. They misdiagnosed me with a benign fibroadenoma and refused to do a biopsy because they were so sure of their diagnosis.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
I was misdiagnosed with fibroadenoma in 2009 and didn't get an accurate diagnosis of phyllodes until 2018.
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
Finding a doctor that will listen to me and actually take it seriously now that it has grown so much.
What have been your biggest difficulties?
Finding medical practitioners that will listen to me.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
Everyone who knows has been very supportive.
What things have you stopped doing?
I no longer eat animal products, caffeine, alcohol, or refined sugar.
What do you think about the future?
I'm optimistic, can't to put this all behind me.
So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?
When I was a young, artistic student. I miss creating and having time/energy for myself.
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
Go out and about without hiding any part of my body.
If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?
My life has been interesting.
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
Get it out as soon as possible. It can't be accurately categorized as benign, borderline, or malignant until after excision. Don't put it off.
