I began having back problems in 2013. I was in excruciating pain and couldn’t sit down for 4 months. I was permanently attached to a TENS machine to get relief. I was diagnosed with periformis syndrome which later proved incorrect. Further tests revealed a very large bulging disc at L5S1
I had emergency surgery and the minute I was awake from anaesthetic I felt amazing with no back pain other than surgery pain.
I got the all clear and aside from post op exercises I was healed and signed off. I made the mistake of riding pillion on my husbands bike at 8 weeks post op. A careless driver knocked us both off. I was found to have a broken rib, punctured lung and shoulder injuries. This meant I was unable to do my log rolls to get up and various exercises. 6 months later I required more surgery for the same disc. This was again successful. Then I began experiencing pain and facet injections were performed. This did not work at all. Another MRI was performed and the disk was bulging again but I also needed major shoulder surgery. They decided the back was more important so I had another op, where a spring type device was put in to stabilise the joints. During this surgery the doctor tore the dural sheath and I leaked spinal fluid. This was repaired with a blood patch.
I woke with the worst headache ever and severe sickness. I had to lay flat on my back on bed rest for 72 hours. This ended up being 5 days.
I am now left with arachnoiditis.
I have crippling pain, flare ups. I have no real nerve activity in my left leg, no reflexes, a numb foot, muscle spasms, weakness and burning in both legs and feet. It is a horrible disease and has no cure
