Be prepared to grieve. I wasn't so it was a shock on top of grief. You have new losses,; it's natural to grieve the loss of some of your abilities. And it does continue on and off. Be prepared to lose friends too. Some just leave because they don't know how to handle it; others stay but really aren't present. But the ones that stay and are present are priceless.
