The best possible way to cope with HC is to take yourself away from people into a darkened room until the flare up (severe pain) has subsided.
I'm lucky that my wife is empathetic and cares for me during any flare ups, But this can still puts a strain on my relationship with the family. We tend to miss out on days out and family time during flare ups.
Partners can find it difficult as there is nothing they can do for you, but watch you suffer. With it being a chronic illness and prevent you from spending time with family and friends that's when a relationship can start to feel the strain.
