The cause is of Lyme disease is a spirochete—a corkscrew-shaped bacterium called Borrelia burgdorferi. You can get this bacteria from a Tick bite, mosquito bite, spider bite, flea bite, fly bite, sexual contact, mother to fetus and blood transfusion. Why do some get sick and others not? I believe immune varying immune systems, some compromised other not. How often you are infected until you become ill. Of course diet, environment stresses, life style, etc. all influence an immune system.

I believe that Lyme is transmitted through blood and, potentially, other body fluids. Well at one time it was a deer tick and only Borrelia Burgdorferi. However, you can get Lyme from mosquitoes, fleas, horse and sand flies, lice, mites, spiders, bedbugs, and I have a microbiologist studying bugs for me. Also the roach, an omnivore, carries it and they do bite and chiggers have come up positive. Also, many other forms of ticks including the lone star and brown dog tick.
