There are procedures out there for people who have ostomies like BCIR and k pouch surgeries. Instead of wearing an ostomy on the outside of the body it's an internal pouch and you stick a catheter in to drain the stool out. These surgeries only 2 doctors in the world perform and have many requirements and hard for the doctors to approve you

I'd say the latest advancements are the surgery itself. Advances made in the pouching systems and the types of material used or ever-changing. Try all of this types of pouches because you never know what might work with your body. Work with your wound and ostomy continence nurse is they specialize in ostomy of all types.
