Miracles do happen

My daughter was 21 and in the best physical condition she had ever been in . Suddenly, in December 2011, over the course of 1 week, her health deteriorated and she had her first seizure. She was taken to the hospital ER, and we are told she had not had a seizure and we should take her to our family doctor. EE insisted she be admitted. Over the next 12 days, we are told she was having a psychotic break and pseudo seizures, up until the point she stopped breathing. The intensive finally suggested we take her to Mayo Hospital Arizona. She was transferred. Upon arrival, she was diagnosed with anti NMDA Receptor Encephalitis. She was in status epilepticus. After many meds and treatments, including 5 seizure meds, a ketogenic diet, steroids, plasma pheresis, Ivig, rituximaub, cellcept and an 11 month stay in the hospital (7 of which were in ICU) she was released to come home. With continued therapy (physical, speech, occupational, vocational) and much determination on her part she has recovered, graduated college and is working on her masters.
