It is often misdiagnosed beforehand as CIDP (Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy). Not many neurologists are even aware about POEMS, and there are only a few hundred of us in the world. Please see the attached file with lots of info as to how to diagnose. I'm actually under a haematologist and a neurologist. Detailed blood tests, a VegF blood test, a bone marrow biopsy, and sometimes a PET scan are standard.
