Symptoms of Sarcoidosis

Sarcoidosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that can affect multiple organs in the body. It is characterized by the formation of small clusters of inflammatory cells called granulomas. These granulomas can develop in various organs, including the lungs, skin, eyes, lymph nodes, liver, and heart. The symptoms of sarcoidosis can vary widely depending on the organs involved and the severity of the disease.

Pulmonary Symptoms

The lungs are the most commonly affected organ in sarcoidosis. Pulmonary symptoms may include:

  • Cough: A persistent dry cough is a common symptom.

  • Shortness of breath: Difficulty breathing or a feeling of breathlessness, especially during physical activity.

  • Chest pain: Discomfort or pain in the chest, often worsened by deep breathing or coughing.

  • Wheezing: A high-pitched whistling sound when breathing.

Skin Symptoms

Sarcoidosis can cause various skin manifestations. Skin symptoms may include:

  • Rash: Red or purple raised patches on the skin, often on the face, arms, or legs.

  • Nodules: Small, firm bumps under the skin.

  • Erythema nodosum: Painful red nodules, usually on the shins.

  • Lupus pernio: Persistent, raised, and discolored lesions on the nose, cheeks, ears, or lips.

Eye Symptoms

Sarcoidosis can affect the eyes, leading to various ocular symptoms. Eye symptoms may include:

  • Blurred vision: Vision may become blurry or hazy.

  • Eye pain: Discomfort or pain in the eyes.

  • Redness: The eyes may appear red or bloodshot.

  • Sensitivity to light: Increased sensitivity to bright lights.

  • Dryness: Dryness or a gritty sensation in the eyes.

Lymph Node Symptoms

Enlarged lymph nodes are a common feature of sarcoidosis. Lymph node symptoms may include:

  • Swollen lymph nodes: Lumps or swelling in the neck, armpits, or groin.

  • Tenderness: The affected lymph nodes may be tender to the touch.

  • Generalized fatigue: Feeling tired or fatigued due to the body's immune response.

Other Symptoms

In addition to the specific organ-related symptoms mentioned above, sarcoidosis can also cause general symptoms that may affect multiple systems in the body. These symptoms may include:

  • Fever: Low-grade fever that persists for an extended period.

  • Weight loss: Unexplained weight loss.

  • Night sweats: Excessive sweating during sleep.

  • Fatigue: Persistent tiredness or lack of energy.

  • Joint pain: Pain, swelling, or stiffness in the joints.

  • Muscle aches: Generalized muscle pain or discomfort.

  • Cardiac symptoms: Rarely, sarcoidosis can affect the heart, leading to symptoms such as palpitations, chest pain, or shortness of breath.

If you experience any of these symptoms or suspect you may have sarcoidosis, it is important to consult a healthcare professional for a proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

I habe neurosarcoid .So I think the worse part about it is the decreased mobility and loss of balance.

That is very hard to determine since Sarcoidosis affects everyone differently. For me it is the daily fatigue and your mind not being clear and staying on task. It is also hard to get excited over anything.

Shortness of breath, fatigue and pain.

Daily unbearable pain and fatigue is by far the worst. Also depending on your stage and lung involvement would be shortness of breathe.

Breathing difficulty is often common in sarcoidosis making every day life more difficult. Many people also have joint pain, severe tiredness and a general feeling of being constantly unwell. If you could get rid of any symptoms it would be the pain that comes with some of the symptoms. Secondly the tiredness.

Tiredness, uncontrollable discomfort, what the disease leaves you with years along the line...

10/28/17 by Edana 400

Short of breath Weight loss Loss of appetite Fever The most limiting condition, according to my experience, is being short of breath. Being short of breath limits you from doing the regular activities e.g. household chores, holding a lengthy conversation, running for a bus etc. Fatigue comes in at a later stage followed by aches and pains. Sometimes getting out of bed is a problem because the body feels as if it was run over by a trailer truck.

Difficulty breathing .. especially in damp weather Fatigue .. even when I've just got out of bed. Conversely I am sometimes so lethargic I can hardly move but can't sleep when I lie down SWEATS .. they come from nowhere, are not accompanied by any flushes or temperature and literally drip down my face and off my chin. My hair becomes saturated and sweat literally drips off the ends. I can no longer wear man-made fabrics because they aren't absorbent. Repeated chest infections requiring steroids Sinusitis .. recurrent bouts

When you have Sarcoidosis in your lungs, it affects everything you do. If you get too hot, too cold, breath dirt, dust or smoke you may have a hard time breathing. Also, skin lesions. They get real red, sore, scaly and itch not to mention unsightly.

Shortness of breath has been the worst symptom for me, personally. I have scar tissue in my lungs and if I could get rid of that, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Fatigue, it is the one thing I'd like to change. Some days are worse than others. A cough - only when my flare is bad. Aching- during a flare

Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory illness of the immune system. Our bodies send lymphocytes to parts of our bodies the immune system ‘thinks’ they’re needed, but are in actuality, not. These lymphocytes gather in the spot they’ve been sent to, and eventually clump up together and form granulomas. Granulomas, if left in place and untreated, become fibroids, a physical manifestation of excess lymphocytes that is far more difficult to remove than granulomas. Granulomas are often referred to as ‘snow balls’, due to their appearance under a microscope.

Sarc is a cluster of granomas causes inflammation. It is usually in the lungs but can also be in the lymph nodes and spread from there. I found out that I had it when to Cleveland clinic.. I had it in my eye which caused warped vision. I started with a rash on my left shin..they gave me steroids in eye drops and I had shots in the eye. They the steroids were more of irritant then it helped so I stopped using it. Sarc usually goes away on its own but there some that have it hang on because of a weakened immune system.

The joint pain and the way sarcoidosis effects your organs would be first on my list. Secondly would be the fatigue.

Sarcoidosis can effects your entire body. I have it in my lungs my heart my bones and they believe it was in my kidney. My chest cavity is full of sarcoidosis. I just wish I can breathe better and I had more energy. I am also in a lot of pain. But not everybody feels the same way that why it's called it the snowflake illness because no one is the same and it does not effect the same organs in everyone's body.
