Allergy Acquired Anosmia

I had horrible seasonal allergies (grass, ragweed, many types of tees, and so many more). The worst year was 2017 when, thanks to my allergies, I got a sinus infection that lasted all summer. The next winter when my allergens were all dormant I started to notice that I couldn't smell anymore. I didn't really think much of it because I never had much of a sense of smell and I couldn't smell all summer because of the sinus infection.

I had my yearly doctor appointment toward the end of that winter and I mentioned that I couldn't really smell since I had that sinus infection. The doctor said that it wasn't uncommon, and that I should wait a few weeks or months and my smell would return. Unfortunately, my sense of smell never did return, I found out in 2022 that it is very likely that the sinus infection killed the nerves in my nose and made me unable to smell.

I learned to live with my anosmia and my extreme seasonal allergies. I have no problems with not smelling, I think of it as a super power rather than a disability.

In 2023 one of my mother’s students who had all kinds of dietary allergies came into school raving about this new allergy treatment. She had been receiving allergy treatments from a chiropractor. I did not believe that these treatments would work, but this student came into school each week with a new allergy that she had overcome. She was now eating gluten, dairy, sugar, and all her other allergens without any problems so I decided to go to the chiropractor to see if I could get rid of my allergies.

After a few months of seeing this chiropractor, I was done with my allergies. Before I couldn't go outside when one of the neighbors was mowing their lawn without breaking into hives and having a coughing fit that would last for two days. After the treatments, I was able to mow the lawn without even sneezing.

These treatments are called Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Techniques (NAET). I definitely recommend anyone with allergies to look into it. These chiropractor treatments changed my life.

I may not be able to smell, but I can actually breathe.
