My Story!

In May 2015 my entire world changed. For the better at that moment. I found out I was pregnant! Me and my husband had been trying for a few years and it wasn't happening, so when we found out we were ecstatic! I had a low lying placenta, so any time I had bleeding I had to go to the ER to make sure everything was okay! And it always was. But little did I know, there was another problem starting. My platelets were dropping. At 102, they decided I needed to see a hematologist. At first they didn't think too much of it, but they kept dropping. Along with all my other levels. It was terrifying. The second week of August I had a bone marrow biopsy. I was then diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia. I had my PICC line placed and my first transfusion on August 28, 2015. I was transfusion dependent for a few months. In October I was admitted to the hospital for the remainder of my pregnancy because the risk to my baby was too high. On December 3, at 34 weeks pregnant, I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl via scheduled c section. About a week later I saw my transplant doctor who told me if my levels didn't start to recover, I would be going to transplant in Feb. Well, they didn't recover so my brother came down, donated and I received his bone marrow on Feb 10, 2016 after a few days of chemo. The recovery was a rough one. Bone pain, exhaustion, gallstones, and an ulcer. I had a lot of different things happen in the hospital. I'm now day +75 and doing good! Levels are all within normal ranges.
