Spinal AVM

Hello!

Beginning in fall of 2015 I started to experience a pins and needles feeling in my right foot. I didn't think much of it and tried going to the chiropractor until I found out I was pregnant in January 2016. I had a great pregnancy and my foot wasn't bothering me much. I gave birth to my son in October 2017 and about 3 months after, noticed I started to walk with a bit of a limp. Over time, I realized I was having more issues with walking and haven't been able to go as far without feeling like my foot is slapping down or my joints feeling weak. I tried physical therapy and finally ended up getting a MRI on my lumbar spine in March. The first thought was that I had Multiple Sclerosis and I was sent for more imaging. After several MRIs of my brain and spine and an angiogram, the first thought was that I had a AV-Fistula but involving a major spinal artery. This has not been seen before in Green Bay, so I was sent to UW-Madison. The doctor there suggested another angiogram in more depth, and shortly after, I was told I have a spinal AVM at T12.

Right now it's in monitoring phase and I am still able to walk. There is approximately a 10-20% risk of paralysis if they perform a partial embolization. I am hoping to hear more back as they dissect my case a little more. I have decided that it's best I just live my life as if I did not have this condition and not live life in such fear. I will overcome any challenges that are thrown my way. God only gives us what we can handle! :)
