In September 2014, my brother suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while sitting on his couch.  Due to the fast actions of his wife and the efficient CPR she administered, he survived.  While still in the hospital, he was diagnosed with Brugada Syndrome.  We have discovered that we have likely had a family history of the disorder, as our grandfather and aunt both died suddenly, with no explanation, in their 50s. I was diagnosed in March of 2015 after suffering a cardiac arrest while being tested for the disorder.  I wore an external defibrillator (Life Vest) for 6 weeks until I could be implanted with a subcutaneous defibrillator (SICD). My brother and I are both Type 1, and our extended family is still being tested.  We each have sons who may be affected, and we each have daughters who have been cleared. I have mild symptoms of heart palpitations and lightheadedness (near syncope).
