Sallie's Story. 15 years undiagnosed primary hyperparathyroidism.

I endured 15 years of declining health beginning with hearing loss, depression and heartburn back in 1997, progressing to  memory loss,  joint pain, mood changes, blurred vision and headaches by 2008.  My first admission to hospital with chest pain in 2006 , my 2nd in 2011; both resulted in calcium being recorded as 2.91 but no action taken. I gave up work December 2010 by which time I'd had tumours in my womb, cysts in kidneys and breasts,  chronic hip and generalised bone pain. I gave up driving and and was convinced I wouldn't see 2012.  When I finally found out about my hypercalcemia in July  2011, I educated myself about hyperparathyroidism  and convinced my doctors to refer me to an endocrinologist who looked at my history of 7 years with hypercalcemia.  I had a 795mg adenoma removed June 2012 and finally got my life back. Bone pain,  blurred vision and cognitive dysfunction  vanished aon with my adenoma.   I set up a support group with the intention of changing the way this disease is diagnosed.  I lost 15 years and found out many others have and are still suffering from poor medical knowledge of this disease.
