The path to Sarcoidosis
It all started with a dry and very irritating cough that just wouldn't go away. The doctors said GERD and then allergies and then asthma and so it went on... until eventually I just accepted that this is the way it was. The amount of times I would have to leave a dinner party to go cough outside as the coughing spasms would just go on and on... but you do just deal with it. That phase lasted 4 years until one day, and moving to another country, I finally decided to go to different doctors and see if they could find out what was going on.
It took about 18 months to get a diagnosis. They started with blood work, then moved on to scan of liver and spleen and on to bone marrow biopsy where granuloma's appeared. I was then referred to a specialist who had dealt with Sarcoidosis before and asked for a lung scan that confirmed Sarc. I was then officially diagnosed with lung, liver and spleen Sarcoidosis. For the moment, no treatment is required and I am so happy about that actually. I'm dreading having to take steroids. For the moment I deal with the breathlessness by avoiding stairs but I love to walk and walk about 1-2 hours/day. I'm convinced that this has helped me. Just keeping moving feels good!
