A COPD interview .

BettyLou's interview

How did all start?

Years ago, after multiple episodes of bronchitis and other respiratory issues, the doctors finally diagnosed me with COPD.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

Yes, 4 months.

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

Pulmonary Rehab

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Family and friends not understanding my disease.

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

Absolutely

What things have you stopped doing?

Participating in community events, any physical activities. Not nearly as sociable as I once was.

What do you think about the future?

One day at a time.

So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?

1967 thru 1994, my time in the military

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

Everything, cook, get out of the house, get involved in community services.

If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?

My daily life is sedate.

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

Be grateful everyday to God for waking up each day. Work hard to keep your attitude positive. You can still do many of the things you once did, you just have to do them differently.
