My Life With Phyll

Way back in 2000, at the age of 45, I decided to have my first mammogram. A small, pea-sized tumor was discovered. After another mammogram, an ultrasound and a core needle biopsy, the tumor was diagnosed as a ‘harmless’ Fibroadenoma. The doctor said, “It’s nothing to worry about, we’ll just keep an eye on it.” Future mammograms consistently showed no change in size. Everyday, if possible, I would feel it to see if it was getting any bigger...after 18 years, and no change, I grew lax and didn’t check it as often as I should have. In February of this year, my arm brushed across my breast and I noticed something odd...I felt something hard against my arm...i discovered the lump had grown quite large and made an appointment for a mammogram. An ultrasound revealed the tumor had grown to 4.3cm. A core needle biopsy was performed with new diagnosis of Giant Fibroadenoma...which was surgically removed April 23rd with no clear margins taken. Newer diagnosis of BLPT made...surgery to get clean margins scheduled for May 23rd.
