My Phyllodes story

In October 2017 I was lying in bed and felt a small lump in my right breast. I made a doctors appointment the next day and the GP I saw thought that it was nothing to worry about. The reason for hthis was that it was round, rubbery and moved freely in the breast. She referred me to a breast surgeon who requested a mammogram and ultrasound scan. I saw him three weeks later after these scans had been done and he sent me to have a core needle biopsy which came back with diagnosis a of Fibroadenoma. He did mention that this was very unusual at my age (47) and that it might be a Phyllodes tumour. He recommended that we leave it and watch it for changes. I was booked for a six month review and I had no noticeable changes then. Another ultrasound and mammogram were scheduled for another six months later. During those months I noticed that the tumour had grownand when I had the scans he called to say we would remove the tumour a couple of weeks later. A 3.5cm benign Phyllodes tumour was removed with clear margins. He took 2mm margins except at the chest wall where only 0.5mm was possible. I now have yearly checks with ultrasound and mammogram scans scheduled.
