A Cerebral Palsy interview .

Chi's interview

How did all start?

Ị was born severely prematured, at 27 weeks in 1967. My survival was a miracle.

Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?

Yes I was diagnosed at the age of 10.

For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?

orthopedics.

What has been the most useful thing for you so far?

Limb shortening and foot reconstruction. As well as keeping active, even when it is challenging. I must mention weight management as I age.

What have been your biggest difficulties?

Overcoming societal stigma and being allowed to be the best I can be.

How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?

When I was younger, I had to battle with proving myself at every stage. Now things are different, I have proven that I can abd I will. It is easier for people to accept my disability, because I have come to terms with it. I do not let it stop me, I just keep living my life.

What things have you stopped doing?

Driving. Full time office work, I work now with my Non profit, helping others.

What do you think about the future?

Very bright, it has been. Full life and I am ready for whatever the future holds. I will be 52 in July, I count my blessings for coming this far with Cerebral Palsy and doing the things, I have been able to do.

So far, which years have been the best years in your life? What have you done during them?

The last 2 years. Our four asons have grown into men. I am able to focus on myself, my writing and enlightening the world on disability, especially Cerebral Palsy.,

What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?

Nothing. I have done it all.

If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would it be?

An unbelievable dream.

Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?

Every one is challenged, some like us have physical challenges, while others have challenges we cannot see. Live the best life you can with your disabilities, you will be amazed at how much you can accomplish.
