CINCA syndrome is a genetically inherited auto-inflammatory condition, caused by a mutation on the NLPR3 gene which would normally encode the protein cryopyrin. The absence or malfunction of the protein cryopyrin is the cause of symptoms associated with CINCA syndrome. Therefore, it is not a contagious disease nor can it be transmitted through contact with patients, however it may be passed on genetically from generation to generation.
