From as young as I can remember I suffered debilitating migraines that resulted in vomiting and light sensitivity for usually around 5 days. One of my first memories of this was walking down the hallway in our house, holding the walls and every time I went past a doorway where the light was filtering through I would drop to my knees with the spinning ceiling for a minute or so before I could continue. I would be billous for a couple of days. The migraines would always start during the night.
My childhood involved lots of doctor and specialist visits, tests and investigations trying to ascertain what was causing these events. Eventually a new GP in a small country practice diagnosed my condition as cyclic vomiting syndrome. I was approx 10 yrs of age then. At that stage the medication provided was Haloperidol that was supposedly to stop me from waking in the night with migraine. (These days I believe this is prescribed for schizophrenia disorders.) This was not effective at all for any of my symptoms. I ceased its use early on when i found it was ineffective.
The syndrome changed a little for me in my teenage years after puberty. I still suffered from frequent migraines but not such debilitating dizziness in my early 20’s.
Migraines have continued all my life and can be preceded by sluggish digestion. Removing sugar from my diet has reduced the number of migraines that I experience.
