I was diagnosed with cervical dystonia in May 2015 by my neurologist who I was referred to for migraines. I was 37 years old at the time, but my neurologist believes I’ve had dystonia since birth (I was a forceps delivery almost 2 weeks late). I had an operation on my neck as a child because my head was permanent tilted to the side (I think this may have been denervation surgery). This was before we knew of botox and the doctors only told my parents I had a muscle that was too tight. My dystonia is fairly mild, I had little neck and shoulder pain but I have frequent and often severe migraines which I noticed came on when my neck is tight and uncomfortable. Since the diagnosis I have started Botox treatment. I'm still learning about the various self-help treatments such as exercise and vitamin supplements.
