GP What?

Apr 18, 2016

By: Amy

I started having pain more intensely and more frequently, as well as severe nausea and mild vomiting. Early satiety, the usual symptoms. I saw a GI doctor, who did and EDG and found mild gastritis and nothing else. Then he sent me for a GES, which who in the world has ever heard of such a thing? Not me, that's for sure. I never did get my numbers back, but he said that I had a severe case of GP and that I need to modify my diet. He also said there was nothing else he could do since the 2 meds out there don't work for me. He told me my only next options were either a gastric pacemaker (which is a 50/50 chance of it even working) or a feeding tube. A feeding, what, tube? I couldn't believe my ears. So after not being able to hold down any liquids or solids, I tried marijuana and the pain that usually doubles me over is gone. I'm not so nauseous; I even have a little bit of an appetite.

Unfortunately, trial and error is the only way to know what you can tolerate a food or not. Which really is unfortunate, because, for myself, I find just eating 2-3 foods I know are okay every day all day long for 8 months now. The reality of what lies behind that scrambled egg is horrifying. Who would intentionally put themselves through it?

We moved all in a matter of 3 months from the onset of really intense pain to Colorado from Texas so I could have access to medical marijuana. We had to leave the only home we've ever known, our son in college, and our families just so I could have some relief.

For some reason my eldest sister and best friend, completely wrote me out of her life. If there really had been something, I'd have known it. But she never once made contact to let me explain, she dodged my calls, snippy text replies, if I even get one. So no matter how much I've explained it to her, she either has issues about me smoking MJ or that we had to leave our son with her. I'm just really not sure; I've extended the olive branch 2 times in the last month and nothing. It's amazing to me that this woman I've know my whole life, who's been my best friend, who I just went to Italy with 2 years ago, now is someone I don't know.

All because I got sick. That sucks! Thanks for that GP!
