Story about Graves disease .

My life with Graves disease

Mar 18, 2017

Went undiagnosed for many years. After a long period of tachycardia my GP decided to run a thyroid panel which showed my T4 was 68 and my TSH was undetectable. Referred immediately to an endocrinologist who ran antibody tests....Graves disease confirmed May 2014. Spent 18 months on Carbimazole and the initial 4 months on Propanalol (to control symptoms until under control), attempted to see after 18 months if I had achieved remission by stopping my Carbimazole. Unfortunately after just 6 weeks of stopping meds my symptoms started to return. After much consideration decided that a total thyroidectomy was best for me, had TT in May 2016.

My levels have been perfect since and I run a busy home with 4 children and work full time as a nurse! unfortunately during surgery my parathyroids were damaged and I am now hypoparathyroid so I take medication for this also now.
