Story about Guillain-Barre Syndrome .

Toddler with GBS

Dec 2, 2

Hello,

I had GBS when I was 3 years old back in 1985/1986. Because of my age I was put in an induced coma just after diagnosis. I was on a resperator for 8 weeks. I was paralyzed head to toe. Very gradually I made a full recovery, after intensive physio and speech therapy. I last saw my neurologist when I was 13 years old and got the all clear!! I still have some very minor issues with fine motor skills but was able to play many sports in high school, representing our state in 3 of them. I do suffer ice pick migraines which they think is also a left over issue. These are getting less frequent the older I become.

I have 2 older brothers who have been detrimental to my recovery. They helped me push myself at times when I just felt like giving up. My parents are so proud of the 3 of us.

Im married to Paul and we have a gorgeous 16month old son, Ethan. He definitely is keeping us on our toes. Im very greatful that Ive managed, what I see, is a full recovery. Although in the back of my mind I still worry about a relapse but I don't let that stop me from living every day to the fullest. X
