Struggles of Guillain Barre Syndrome

It was 10 years ago that my life changed forever. After several weeks of doctor's appointments and ER visits, I was finally referred to a Neurologist where he immediately placed me in the hospital. I could barely walk. Tests were run and I was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome (pronounced: Gee-yan-buh-rey Syndrome.) I told them the name sounded French and I wasn't from France. (A bit of humor.) They asked me if I had a flu shot and I told them no. Most of the beginning was a blur, but then I was sent to Dayton Rehab for several weeks and then to a nursing home at age 47. I was away from my children and home for almost six months. During my stay in the nursing home, my family, friends and co-workers supported me through it all. Spending Christmas in a nursing home wasn't easy, but my friends and co-workers provided gifts to all of my children. I remember my co-workers and I singing Christmas carols up and down the hallway. My youngest who was 9 at the time would come and play Bingo with the patients. My friend brought a litter of pups in for all of the patients to hold. There were alot of memories in that nursing home - both good and bad. Over the years, I have so much gratitude for the people I love and have helped me through it all. Unfortunately, I had extensive damage to my ganglia nerve root. They said it was a "unique" case. Well, I've always said I wanted to be "unique" but not like this! Can I actually tell people they're "getting on my nerves" anymore? Or maybe I can just change it to "you're getting on my damaged nerves!" :)
