Lyme disease is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Borrelia Burgdorferi. The disease was first described in Lyme (United States) in 1975. It's transmitted by the bite of a tick that carries Borrelia bacterium, which produces an infection that has a course of three stages. If it is not treated it can end up being a chronic infection damaging different systems of the organism.
