N6's interview
How did all start?
I started having pains on my lower back and I felt tired all the time.
Do you already have a diagnosis? How long did it take you to get it?
Yes. It took the doctors 4 years to diagnose me with fibromylgia until my mum saw a Tv documentary on Lyme disease and recognized the symptoms.
For what medical specialties have you been treated? What has been the most useful specialty for your?
All! Oncologist, neurologist, physiotherapist...none was useful I am afraid.
What has been the most useful thing for you so far?
Knowing I was not imagining the pain and therefore, getting to know my own body.
What have been your biggest difficulties?
I am a musician and not being able to concentrate to play guitar or compose music is the worst thing for me. I haven´t been playing for three years now. It is soul destroying.
How has your social and family environment reacted? Have your social or family relationships changed?
My friends and family reacted in a very supportive way. i still have my girlfriend by my side but our relationship has been deteriorated by the illness.
What things have you stopped doing?
Playing music, doing exercise, running, socializing, concentrating, sleeping, feeling happy, being positive.....
What do you think about the future?
To be honest, the future does not look bright form where I stand.
What would you like to do if you didn’t have your condition?
I would go back to playing music and doing physical jobs. I was a very active person before Lyme.
Finally, what advice would you give to a person in a similar situation?
don´t give up, try to think positive even when the illness is invading your thoughts
