I contracted Lyme Disease in Charles County, Maryland. Infected between the years of 2003 - 2004. All the classic signs, with a history of tick bites. My Primary Care Physician did NOT order the Lyme test as requested by me, until 2 years later....Despite the fact that I had numerous tick bites and my pet tested + for Lyme. As it turned out the VET knew more about Lyme than my Primary Care Physician: Doctor "W".... He did not believe in chronic Lyme. 2 years into the infection, my fatigue, aches, pains, cognitive functions were increasly getting worse and worse as time wore on. QUOTE: "you are feeling what is NORMAL for a woman your age"!! Finally, years later:he finally ordered the first test: No surprise +++ very positive. He gave me a short round of doxy: and I had lost faith in this physician and did my own research. After the short round of 2 weeks of doxy: I insisted on at least 6 weeks. He prescribed it: even though he did not feel like I needed it. So, after doing my OWN research re: Lyme Disease, 6 months later I asked for the second follow Lyme test. GLARING +++ test, my titres were 3x what the CDC requires to be considered Lyme infected. The "physicans assistant" called me with the results of that test to give the results: and I quote: "Don't worry, Lyme is NO BIG DEAL". I told her that she had NO right to tell me that, as she had no idea what I was going through, and that based on how I KNEW how my health was on the decline that she had no right to say that to me. That was my last contact with that Doctors office. I moved on: I did my own research: I was an advocate for my own health and livelihood. Thanks to the power of the internet, I researched and found a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor, and after being treated by Dr. L in Towson, MD: today I am so much better. Not a day has gone by, that I don't thank my LLMD. The IDSA must change their guidelines!!
