Story about Multiple Chemical Sensitivity .

Living with MCS since 1999

Mar 31, 2020

I became engaged in health and environmental issues at the age of 21
when I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and developed MCS after an injury.

Since 1999, I have been aggressively researching a wide range of subjects, particularly those pertaining to human health and environmental issues. I have written for local, regional and national publications and am well versed in chemicals in consumer products and the harmful effects of pesticides.

I'm a healthy living blogger who focuses on simple healthy recipes for everything from food, gardening and personal care products.

I am also an artist, home designer and have been consulting in building biology and organic gardening for almost 2 decades.

I insist on certified organic, people friendly products, environmentally friendly comes second to people friendly. I love nice things, nice homes, nice cars, pretty stuff and fantastic food.

THINGS I DON'T CARE FOR:
Green-washing, pink-washing, toxic pesticides, synthetic ingredients in personal care and household products, fabric softener (hate it!), factory farms, GMO's, ignorance and judgmental people.

Myself and my husband live in a home that we designed, drafted and contracted to be free from toxic chemicals. We plan on building another home in the future with more outdoor living space. We may consider moving out of the province but have been looking for a non existent utopia, when we find the next best thing I will then set my sights on a new destination.

I dream of living near a sandy beach, in an area which is pesticide-free, has clean air and water, a temperate warm climate, lots of markets and local organic food and to hopefully meet some like-minded friends to spend evenings beach combing,
enjoying a cup of organic tea and good scent-free fun.

THE PROS & CONS OF LIIVING IN NEWFOUNDLAND, CANADA WITH MCS:

Pros:
Lots of hiking trails away from homes & roads
Still several areas where you can forrage for wild berries and mushrooms

Cons:
Highways, pole-lines & some forested areas are sprayed with pesticides.
Many people spray their lawns & trees with pesticides.
Organic food is low quality & very expensive (living on an island)
Very few organic farms
Very short growing season so local fresh food is only available for a few months
No local organic meats or dairy
Long winters, bad weather
Wood smoke pollution in winter
Dryer vent pollution year round
Cost of living is high

I would love to hear about the area where others with MCS live the pro's & cons of the area and whether or not it's suitable for those with MCS.

Thank you,

Judie
