Ulcerative Collitis and me

To make a long story short.... I stopped smoking and slowly but surely the disease started to take over my colon (especially my rectum-area), and after several mishaps (pooing in the pants) I finaly went to a doctor, who got the ball rolling... colonoscopy etc etc, and a diagnosis was made in 2008.

the first few years my medication (mezavant and immuran) kept the disease ''at bay'' (only minor flares), but eventually I got a big big big flare, that wouldn't go away.

I was put on steroids several times in a row, but every time when i reached the ''end-of the steroid-cycle'' the flare was back ...

it was sooo bad that i was admitted to hospital, where I got steroids into my veigns.. and that was like a mirracle cure... (or so I thought)I went on several programs with ''new'' treatments (spending a day in hospital on ''the drip'' every month or so but program after program failed (for me)maybe it waas because i was having a big flare even before those drugs were dripped into me, that they didn't give the propper results... i don't know for sure, but eventually, i said... no more, and i decided for removal of the large colon.

July 2015 i had it done and I live eversince with a stoma....

It was the best thing that happened to me in years, because FINALLY i no longer had ''TOILET'' as my number 1 thought/worry.

I still have my rectum, and slowly but surely I'm convinced that I have to  have that removed as well, because a LOT of mucus comes out, and often even blood, but that is of minor concern...

I HAVE MY LIFE BACK

(my life no longer is ruled by my fear of , not reaching a toilet in time)
