Lichen Sclerosus

My condition is not on this map yet. It is related to Lichen Planus but it is NOT Lichen Planus, it is Lichen Sclerosus (Sclerosis) It is a skin condition that can affect women and men but seems to mainly appear in women, all ages but more after menopause. I have been diagnosed by punch biopsy.

This condition appears mainly in the genital area but can appear on other parts of the body, mostly soft skin areas. It is an insidious condition that causes atrophy of the areas it affects. It is extremely itchy and maddening at times. It is generally brought under control with the use of strong steroid creams or ointments. Clobetasol being the most widely used and Triamcinolone right behind it.

This is an orphan disease/condtion because too many people are too embarrassed to speak about it. It has debilitating consequences. It can ruin a persons ability to have any kind of a sex life, which can in turn shatter relationships, unless one has an very understanding partner.
