TN story....

My name is LaQuisha Rucker-Fields and I have Trigeminal Neuralgia.  I won't begin this by saying that I am a survivor because I deal with  some form of this pain daily, but what I will say is that I am a chosen vessel (something like Job) willing to run on anyhow in the midst of this who continues to be restored.  I was diagnosed with this dreadful condition, eventually ending up with both TN1 and TN2, on June 26, 2013, at the age of 36.  However the pain started in May with what felt like a toothache but even before that I was seeing a Neurologist because of numbness on the right side of my face!

When I was diagnosed it still did not seem as big of a deal to me as it was to others that I read about until it into unimaginable pain; pain that would have me rolling on the floor, crying uncontrollably and most days unable to open my mouth.  This disease has the ability to take over your life if you let it.  But get this, beloved, that was never an option for me.  I believe that I was chosen for this and had it not been for the faith that was planted into me early, friends, prayer warriors and intercessors never would I have made it!  You see I had been prescribed about 4 different anti-seizure medicines along with pain medicines (about 3), with no help and awful side effects (including a rash that covered my body).  It got so bad that I had to start keeping a pain journal writing down what medicine I took, the dosage, the strength and the time because I mixed so much medicine there was a strong possibility that I could easily sleep away.  Oh, but God!! After seeing three different neurologists here in Memphis, even in the midst of 3 ER visits, constant calling and sending emails to different doctors, more medicine and continually suffering; I never stopped trusting God and on November 1, 2013 my sister received a call from the doctor's office in Nashville she had emailed. The nurse says he can definitely help me because Dr. Robert Mericle (pronounced miracle) is one of the top surgeons who can treat TN!  My sister and I, along with my baby sister; traveled to Nashville on the November 7,2013 and from the time we walked into the doctor office, I knew this was where I would get healing. From the doctor's assistant to the nurse practitioner, everyone knew! I was so excited and before we left there, my surgery was scheduled for December 17, 2013 at 7:00AM.  I had an Micro Vascular Decompression (MVD), a brain surgery where they go into the base of your skull, through an incision behind your ear, and rewrap the nerves with a protective sheath that keeps the blood vessel from irritating it.  My surgery lasted almost 9 hours, with the doctor finding compressions on all three nerves, but I was up and walking with help the next morning coming on 2 days later.  I have some pain now but I am a living testimony that while many did not make it and many will not make I will be one of the ones who did! Watch my God work…I was born 2 win!
