A Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome story

Apr 28, 2017

when I was 18 days old I wasn't feeding very well so mummy took me to the doctors the next day at 19 days, we saw a locum doctor who said I had oral thrush which is why I wasn't feeding. On the day I turned 20 days old I started making a grunting noise so mummy took me to the doctor and they refused to see me so we went to a&e. Not long after being there I had lots of doctors and nurses surrounding me I then had a cardiac arrest, after 19 minutes my heart started beating again and this was the start of my road of recovery. For a few hours doctors struggled to stabilise me then the children's acute transport service (CATS) came so I could be transferred to great ormond street hospital (GOSH) for the best possible care. Mummy and daddy were told too prepared  for the worse. At first I kept getting worse and was in a coma my kidneys were not working properly so I was on a kidney machine. Doctors and nurses were trying so hard to find out why all of this happened. After a few days I started to improve. I came out of the coma and moved and opened my eyes this was a big step and I slowly started to breath on my own. Exactly a week after it all happened mummy got to hold be for the first time she was so happy. I was still having lots of tests. I had an operation on my leg due to something going wrong and medication killing all my skin tisue on my knee I had to have a skin graft, in my first op I went into SVT and this is when we found out I have Wolff Parkinson White syndrome I was then put on flecanide and propranolol to control the SVT. After nearly a month I finally went home. When I turned 2 years old I was taken off  my medication and so far I'm ok. I still go for yearly check ups at GOSH.
