Heather's Story

Jan 26, 2016

By: Heather

I was officially diagnosed at the age of 14 in 1987, but I believe I had HCM long before that.  I have a strong family history of people with HCM. Does that I know of are my grandpa who died at 64, which is a miracle.  Two uncles who died in their 20s one suddenly. I have a cousin who had a heart transplant at 18 and died at the age of 38 from pneumonia.  Her son died at the age of 28 while playing video games. My two sons ages 18 and 15 both have this awful disease. I  recently had a heart transplant on November 14, 2015. I had a lot of issues with my HCM. I was nonobstructive with a lot of different  arrhythmias. I had a pacemaker/Defibrillator put in in 2002. I had three different PVI ablations.  To top it all off I had an episode of the tack which almost killed me in July 2015. I coded three times but I made it out and got my transplant. I'm only 11 1/2 weeks out so hopefully it all goes well.  please feel free to contact me.
