Story about Celiac Disease .

Diagnosis and Now

Dec 2, 2

By: Emma Hood

Didn't have many problems when I was little. Just little tummy problems. My mother was diagnosed nearly 5 years ago and heard it run in families. I got tested about a year later and it came back positive. Since my mam had already gotten to grips with it by then, when I was diagnosed I had a lot of help and knew what I could and couldn't eat. It was not that difficult at home, although more difficult finding places to go with my friends. I moved away to the University of Chester a year ago and since then it has been difficult. Problems are when meeting new people, explaining what you can and can't eat and where you can't go etc, having to deal with messy housemates who don't understand cross contamination, and the expense is of course anything issue for a poor student. Since I've been here a year, it is becoming easier to find things I can eat without being bored.
