Story about Colon Cancer .

Never too young

Sep 10, 2017

By: Sean

Year Condition Began: 2011

Diagnosed in early 2011 at age 37 as Stage IIIc. Only symptoms were passing blood. When my regularity changed, I went to see my primary thinking hemorrhoids. When none were found, he got me right in to get a colonoscopy. Tumor and resection were performed in the spring (no ostomy) followed by 12 rounds of FolFox.

I recurred to my retroperitoneal and periaortic lymph nodes in 2014 and was changed to Stage IV. I then had 12 rounds of FolFiri and 1.5 rounds of Erbitux. The rash was so bad from Erbitux, I could only handle 1.5 rounds. In the fall once chemo was completed, I had six weeks of standard radiation. Afterwards, I was NED.

Late in 2016 I once again recurred to two of my lumbar vertebrae. I had SBRT In October and then once again went on FolFox - this time with Avastin - starting in January 2017. I have since completed treatment, after developing an allergy to Oxaliplatin. Once again, I am NED!
