A Dupuytrens Contracture story

Feb 25, 2016

Quite a while ago i noticed my little finger was bent, I thought being a manual worker in consstuction i must have broken it and not realised, so I did nothing about it, then the others followed suit. I still did nothing about it, i assumed it was just an age thing. Then my other hand started to do the same thing, still not realising what it was, I have adapted now to not using these fingers, but being a Glazier it is becoming dangerous for me to continue working. Visiting the doctor they sent me to see a consultant who diagnosed the condition. I were told about the  surgury and what it entailed.

Because my hands arre caloused i was advised that skin graphts mmay be nessasary, and could be 6 months off work, I am self employed and not able to recieve any kind of DHSS benefits, and my insurance policy only covers me for accidents, so i cannot have 6 months of no income, This one reason is why I have had no treatment.
