Story about Multiple Chemical Sensitivity .

My battle with MCS and public understanding

Year Condition Began: 1988

I worked as an art teacher for 30 years. Each year the colognes, perfumes, 2nd & 3rd hand smoke, cleaners, dry erase fumes....just to name a few, kept getting worse. During my 30th year 2 boys got mad at me because I separated them for horsing around in class. To get even with me, they sprayed themselves with Axe Cologne. I sent them to the office, the principal made them say they were sorry and told me to call their parents. He didn't see it as a big deal. I told him that I would have rather they had punched in the face because I would have healed from that a lot faster. That statement just seemed to confuse him. I called the parents. One said her son would be grounded for the weekend. The other said that if her son wanted to wear cologne, that it was his prerogative and if I had a problem with that, I would just have to figure out how to deal with it. I wanted to separate the boys into different classes...the principal refused. That is when I began retirement proceedures and retired as quickly as possible. I could no longer deal with the constant bombardment of chemicals and the total lack of concern.
