I had retired as a elementary teacher and gone to work as an archivist. The boss saw me fall to the floor and asked if that happened often. I think he was trying to make a joke. When I said it happens 5 or 6 times a day, he was appaled. He had me go to the doc and check it out. My doc knew that I fell sometimes . I had told him so, but when he found out I fell 5 or 6 times a day... he had me go see a neaurologist. Well, I'd been falling for 7 or 8 years but in the last 6 years it was many times during the day. They discovered I had no feeling in my legs below the knee. Many test were given. Tilt tests, tests that measured the amount of cuurrent going through my legs... they found that there was no current. Cat scans, MRI's and ects.... still no answer. I was sent to a fifth Dr., another nuaerologist, now my third neaurolopgist, and he sent me to the Mayo in Arizona and they sent me to Texas to another (4) neaurologist. he said he thought I had MSA but he wanted to do some more testing. After compleating more test and having more symptoms like shaking and missing a short periood of time and othe things. He finally said I had MSA and he would like to try some "New" medication.
My home Doc. the one who started sending me to other Docs. said he thought I was doing fine on the meds he aqnd other Drs. had given me. He remembered an old western saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". That was how he described what was happening with me presently. As long as nothing changes, like trying new meds, I seem to be doing well.
I've been in a wheelchair for the last 4 years. I still hunt and fish and my life is good. I only miss serfving at the altar at church but I still attend every Sunday that I can.
