My NF Story

I was 4 years old when I was diagnosed, but I did have problems before, such as falling down stairs and having to be stitched up 3 times before I was 18 months old, and the doctors thought my parents had something to do with my injuries. Other problems I had in later in life were that, I had a low centre of gravity and when it came to running, instead of my legs running infront of me, my legs went out to the side of me when i ran, and when I use to sit, my legs would be in a "W" position.

 

When it came time for me going to school, I was diagnosed with NF1. My mum was both shocked and relieved about the news. Shocked at what it was and what it can do, but also relieved at there was now an explination for my behaviour and actions. As our Ministry of Education would only pay for 1 day for me to have a teacher aid, my primary school helped to fight for me to have a teacher aid every day i was at school which i was successful in getting, and I had one with me right through until my last year at intermediate.

 

Years later I had a girlfriend who after I told her I had NF1 and she even looked it up to see what it was about.

And just last year I got a girlfriend I got a girlfriend who also has NF1 so we both know what other can expect.
