Initially diagnosed with benign fibroadenoma in 2009 and told to watch and wait, that it should be fine unless it starts to hurt or grows so large it gets in the way. 2018, it started growing noticeably and fast. Went in for ultrasound and biopsy (biopsy said benign, but PT cannot be fully determined until complete excision). Grew very fast while waiting for surgery. After surgery, pathology came back as malignant. Clear margins were obtained, but only 2mm. High mitotic rate (22), very large in size. Went through 25 sessions of radiation plus 5 boosts.
I pushed to transfer to a medical oncologist for monitoring after radiation, and we opted for CT scans every 3 months as follow-up since PT is so aggressive and fast-growing. No local recurrence, but metastasis in my lung found in my first follow-up CT, already 2.5 cm. We started AIM chemo right away, did a lobectomy, and did follow-up AIM after healing from the lobectomy.
