A life with Poland Syndrome

Year Condition Began: 2018

Hi I’m Elijah and I’m 2 years old. My Mummy and Daddy noticed I had webbed fingers when I was born so I was referred to a fantastic hospital that is outstanding for plastic surgery.

It wasn’t until I had my first appointment when my amazing consultant diagnosed me with Poland Syndrome straight away.

I’m also missing my left pectoral muscle and the muscle in my back is very weak.

My left hand is considerably smaller than my right but it has never stopped me from using it. My fingers were operated on just after my 1st birthday. I was very brave and the doctors and nurses were so impressed with how I recovered after anaesthetic. My knuckles have also been affected by PS and I’m waiting to see if I need further surgery.

So far I’m having check ups every 18 months so we won’t know if I need surgery to my chest until I get bigger!

Sometimes I get pain in my left arm and hand but my dinosaurs give me a cuddle to help! I’m always smiling and playing.
