Story about Biliary Atresia .

How it all began

Jan 5, 2016

By: Aubree

Went in for a normal ultrasound at 21 weeks pregnant with Aubree, at the Army hospital on post, to find out if we were having a boy or a girl. They sent us to The Children's Hospital in Colorado Springs (where we lived at the time) because there was something that stuck out to them but they couldn't tell what it was. At 24 weeks pregnant with Aubree we found out she had something going on with her liver. They gave us 2 possibilities, a choledochal cyst or biliary atresia. They leaned more towards the choledochal cyst and Aubree was born on January 4th 2013. On March 22nd 2013 when she had her Kasai they found out it was actually biliary atresia. She was doing fairly well for a while, we relocated to Arkansas and she is now treated at Lebonheur in Memphis, TN. All was well until June of 2014 when she was diagnosed with portal hypertension, and has had several bandings since. She was listed on the transplant list June 17th 2015 and so far just taking things day by day. We just celebrated her 3rd birthday and she is pretty stable health wise.
