Story about Narcolepsy .

Misdiagnosed as depression for 20 years.

Aug 16, 2017

My family Dr. attributed the excessive sleepiness to depression. Granted, I am somewhat depressed, but as I got a little older the sleepiness during the day got much worse. I would fall asleep several times a day, even sitting up. Instantly start dreaming (going into REM sleep) which is a good indicator of narcolepsy. When I started falling asleep driving, my neurologist's nurse practitioner (that I visit for migraines) called it right away. She has a son with narcolepsy, and sent me right away for a sleep study. Overwhelmingly positive. Now on medication and can almost consider myself as "normal", minus getting tired some, and short of breath a little when exerting myself.
